Can you love a film when you also know it’s problematic? Director Jane Schoenbrun turns the slasher into a funny, bloody and deeply personal story about desire, shame and the movies that shape us. Discover a slasher that makes you think as well as scream.

The infamous Camp Miasma franchise, a 1980s-style slasher series about the spear-wielding killer Little Death, is getting a reboot. Young queer filmmaker Kris (Hannah Einbinder) is hired to bring the horror classic to a new generation. But things take an unexpected turn when she tracks down Billy Presley (Gillian Anderson), the mysterious "final girl" from the original film, who still lives at the camp where it was shot.
From there, the movie spirals into a blood-soaked mix of horror, comedy, erotic tension and film-within-a-film play. Director Jane Schoenbrun lovingly recreates the VHS-era world of trashy slasher franchises, while asking an uncomfortable question: how do we relate to the films we grew up loving when their stereotypes and ideas no longer feel quite right?
After We're All Going to the World's Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, Schoenbrun completes their trilogy about self-discovery with a film about life after transition. Camp Miasma is more than a slasher. It's also a story about being a fan, navigating nostalgia, shame and desire, and discovering how the images we grow up with can shape who we become.
