For Tayfun, death is never just the end of a life. As an undertaker for the Belgian-Turkish community, he helps grieving families navigate one final, deeply personal question: where should their loved one be buried: in Belgium or in Turkey? In 2m², this practical decision opens up a much bigger story about migration, belonging and the ties that remain, even after death.

Genre: Documentary
Language: Turkish, Dutch, subtitles: English
Length: 1hrs 23 mins (2026)

Every funeral raises the fundamental question for people who have lived between two countries and two cultures: where do you belong, and where do you want to be buried? In which two square meters? For many of the families Tayfun works with, the answer is far from simple. Some want their loved ones laid to rest in Belgian soil; others feel drawn to the old country. Each choice comes with emotional, logistical and bureaucratic complications.

Through his wry humour and daily negotiations, Tayfun guides families through these difficult decisions. Through his daily work, 2m² reveals the mix of belonging, bureaucracy, cultural identity and small absurdities that shape life between two homelands.

What begins as a documentary about burial arrangements slowly unfolds into a warm, sharp and unexpectedly funny reflection on home, loss and the question of where we ultimately belong.
