Please join us for an enchanting night of high quality music combined with beautiful animations. 8 March Lavinia will perform at the Gaslab accompanying an animated film that she wrote the story for herself. Animator Aimée de Jongh created the animations for the film.
Renowned harpist Lavinia Meijer and animator Aimée de Jongh met at Dutch television show De Wereld Draait Door. Here, Lavinia performed the music accompanying a short animated film by Aimée. It was a match made in heaven, and together they decided to create the film Behind the Telescopes. In this film beautiful animations by Aimée converge with live music performed by Lavinia: pieces by Philip Glass, Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, and pieces composed specifically for this film by Lavinia herself. She shares the stage with sound designer Arthur Antoine. After the film, Aimée will join them on stage for a Q&A with the audience.

Behind the Telescopes is Lavinia’s first fictional story, based on events of the past years: in fall 2015 she performed for Syrian refugees in the Netherlands. In that same period water was discovered on Mars. For Lavinia both events touch upon the search for a better life, then, today, and in the future.
Aimée de Jongh (1988) is animator, illustrator, and comic artist, most known for her daily comic ‘Snippers’ in newspaper Metro. She has also made a video for singer Wende Snijders. Behind the Telescopes in her longest animation film so far.
Lavinia Meijer (1983), winner of the Dutch Music Prize 2009, is one of the most versatile harpists of this time. After her debut in Carnegie Hall in New York in 2007 she’s been invited for solo performances in Europe, Asia, and the United States. She has worked with acclaimed composers like Philip Glass (Koyaanisqatsi, the Hours) and Ludovico Einaudi (Intouchables, Black Swan) and shared the stage with legendary Iggy Pop. Her albums are released worldwide and were awarded with an Edison Award and gold-and-platinum-status.
