Britain, 1970’s. The rise of National Front, a far-right, fascist political party supported by music legends such as Eric Clapton and David Bowie triggers a group of musicians and artists to start a countermovement, called Rock against Racism (RAR). In a world where the National Front are spreading their Nazi ideology, this documentary follows RAR and how they started Britain’s largest anti-racism movement through spreading grassroots punkzines about anti-racism and uniting punk and reggae groups to fight the fascists.

With a large amount of archival footage, White Riot shows how music propelled the anti-racist movement in this gripping documentary.

Director Rubika Shah, whose earlier works include documentaries about David Bowie and Spike Lee, won the Grierson Award for Best documentary with White Riot at the BFI London Film Festival.

This film will be introduced by Brendan Vos, former assistant programmer at Eindhoven’s arthouse cinema. He currently teaches film and television as a freelancer and works on film productions when time allows.
