This film hardly needs an introduction. An ancient epic, reborn on the biggest scale. Christopher Nolan takes on Homer’s Odyssey: a monumental journey filled with gods, monsters, temptation and violence, but above all, the desperate desire to make it home.
Genre: adventure, action, epic
Language: English, subtitles: Dutch
Length: 2 hrs. 52 mins. (2026)
Ten years of war are over, but for Odysseus the hardest part is only beginning. The king of Ithaca sets sail for home after the fall of Troy, hoping to return to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus. Instead, his voyage across the Mediterranean becomes an epic struggle for survival as he faces storms, mythical creatures, temptation and the wrath of the gods.
Nearly three millennia after Homer’s poem was first told, Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer, Interstellar, Dunkirk) brings one of the foundational stories of Western literature to the big screen. Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.
Beneath the battles, monsters and spectacle lies a deeply human question: what does it mean to come home after war, and can you ever return as the person who left?
The SG student film committee about the film: “You've probably heard about this story already, but together with Dutch cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema and the rest of his team, Nolan serves up a modern retelling that would make Orpheus weep. Come enjoy this movie built for the big screen!"
Awards
The film received the Truly Moving Picture Award at Heartland Film 2026 and was named Most Anticipated Film at the 2026 Astra Midseason Movie Awards. But…. Wait for the Oscars in February.
