Working alongside his unscrupulous colleagues Chris and Gwada, Stéphane struggles to maintain order amidst the mounting tensions between local gangs. When an arrest turns unexpectedly violent, the three officers must reckon with the aftermath and keep the neighborhood from spiraling out of control.

Les Misérables is the first feature film by French director Ladj Ly (40), known from several documentaries and short films. Les Misérables was awarded the jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 and this year competed as a French entry for the Oscar for the best international film.

Ladj Ly grew up himself in Montfermeil.
