Scotland, 1983. The life of the bright and talented John Davidson seems full of promise. As a gifted soccer goalkeeper, he dreams of a professional career, and he also excels in school. But suddenly, he begins to swear and move uncontrollably.
At a time when Tourette syndrome was barely understood, John becomes increasingly isolated. He is bullied, loses touch with those around him, and withdraws in fear and shame.
Years later, he meets Dottie, the down-to-earth and warm mother of a former classmate, who is herself terminally ill. An unexpected bond forms between them that radically changes John’s life. With her support, he regains his self-confidence and learns to use his voice; for himself and for others.
