The Nederlands Studenten Orkest (NSO, Dutch Student Orchestra) has become a household name in both the worlds of music and students in the Netherlands. An NSO concert guarantees fantastic music, spectacle and surprises. The national project orchestra was founded in 1952 and is composed yearly of talented students who, in addition to their studies at a college or university, are engaged in classical music at a high level. In 2022, the Nederlands Studenten Orkest will be making their 70th tour. This 14th lustrum will stand out because of the grand program: Jesse Passenier's commissioned composition has been specially composed for NSO 2022 and Rommert Groenhof will perform the bass trombone solo. Similar to the first edition of the NSO in 1952, Brahms' Akademische Festouvertüre will be performed. This also harkens back to previous lustrums, such as in 2012, when the piece was played. After the intermission, the Suite "Shéhérazade" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov will be performed. This is one of Rimsky-Korsakov's best-known pieces and is based on the stories of Sheherazade in the book One Thousand and One Nights. An internationally acclaimed conductor, Arjan Tien will be leading the NSO this year. The overarching theme of NSO 2022 is ‘Herleef’ meaning revive.
