Ever noticed those tiny figures popping up in surprisingly realistic photos online? In this hands-on workshop, you will create a miniature world inside a shoebox and turn it into a photographic story.
What story will you tell?
It can be personal, humorous, surprising or socially engaged. Take inspiration from student life, technology, climate, identity or simply something that catches your attention. By experimenting with perspective, composition and light, you’ll discover how even the smallest details can change the meaning of an image.
No previous photography experience is required. Curiosity, imagination and a story you want to explore are all you need.
During the workshop, you will:
- Develop your idea and bring it to life
- Build a miniature mixed-media scene inside a shoebox
- Work with backgrounds, collage, miniature figures and light
- Experiment with viewpoint, composition, framing and lighting
- Create one striking final image or a short visual sequence
What to bring
Please bring an empty shoebox and a smartphone with a camera. Before the workshop, think about a subject, experience or current issue that you might like to explore. No need for a fully worked-out plan, your idea can develop along the way.
