Welcome to Hawthorne, one of the most exclusive restaurants in the world. Located on a small, picturesque island where all the food is grown, raised, harvested, and slaughtered. A group of elite guests arrive here for an exquisite dining experience. What happens next is for you to see for yourself. Come and watch this dark comedy horror film unravel. It’ll keep you in suspense throughout the entire runtime, and it trumps expectations with its sublime plot.
Language: English, subtitles: Dutch
A group of obscenely wealthy people gather to dine at Hawthorne, serving only 12 customers per night at $1250 a head. They expect to be served deconstructed works of art; exercises in molecular gastronomy, all prepared by Chef Slowik and his tightly organized and disciplined-like-soldiers staff. But tonight's menu will be special. Not only is the food handpicked, but so are the guests….. with one exception.
This dark, well-styled and thrilling comedy is full of great one-liners (“this is the basecamp of mount bullshit” and “Are we going to eat a Rolex?”), smears at the excessively rich and is full of nasty surprises. The all-star cast keeps you at the edge of your seat as the names and the ingredients of the courses become increasingly disturbing.
Please note this film contains scenes of a violent and graphic nature.
This film is recommended by the Film Committee because it is an extraordinary, dark and twisted journey into the adventurous world of fine dining. The incredible acting of Ralph Fiennes slowly reveals the true face of the renowned chef which might come as a complete surprise. The dark humor and a good amount of thrill sets a very alluring and emotionally-contrasting atmosphere. You will either laugh hysterically or be completely shocked by what is happening. A perfect sweet and spicy combination.
“Satire of the darkest possible, hilarious kind, best served with plenty of popcorn.” The Seattle Times.
