This unforgettable road movie tells the complex but fluidly told story of loss, acceptance, and mutual communication, based on a handful of short stories by writer Haruki Murakami. Winner of the Best Screenplay award at Cannes 2021 and nominated for four Oscars in 2022, cashing in on the award for Best International Feature Film.

Theater director Yûsuke Kafuku is happily married to Oto until disaster suddenly strikes. Overwhelmed by grief, Kafuku tries to understand the secret he discovered just before her death.

Two years later, the still grieving Kafuku decides to accept the offer to direct a play in Hiroshima. His new employer has arranged the perfect, but very modest, driver Misaki to transport him during his stay there. As they spend time together while driving and getting to know each other better, Kafuku unravels the mystery surrounding his wife that still haunts him.
