A piano trio, a double bass and the four saxophones will give you a great taste of the rich and varied Storioni Festival, which will take place in Eindhoven this year from May 15 to 28. This mix of romantic and adventurous music, performed by eight different top musicians in four different styles of classical music, is a great way to cross the threshold into the world of chamber music. Join us for an unforgettable musical lunch break!

Bringing a breath of fresh air to chamber music, that's what the internationally renowned Storioni Festival does in an outstanding way, year after year. Once again, violinist Wouter Vossen and his brother Marc Vossen on the cello, together with pianist Robert van der Roer, are in charge of an exuberant musical feast for lovers of chamber music and for all those who would like to get to know it. In addition to the wonderful Storioni trio, double bass player Sasha Witteveen will play a solo piece, and the MAAT Saxophone Quartet will perform the closing piece.

The repertoire
·  Franz Liszt - 'Tristia' voor pianotrio (Storioni Trio)
·  Xavier Dubois Foley - ‘The Falling Seagull’ solo double bass (Sasha Witteveen)
·  Maurice Ravel - Modéré from piano trio (Storioni Trio)
·  Edvard Grieg – selection from Norwegian Dances (Maat Saxophone Quartet)

Sasha Witteveen (2003) is a versatile double bass player and has won the first prize in many national and international competitions. The jury of the Britten Concours (2020) said: “Sasha Witteveen is a virtuoso bassist. She has a natural sound that shows different characters.’’ Jury of Dutch Classical Talent, 2022: “Her decisiveness and determination are impressive, she knows exactly what she wants. Fearlessly, her fingers race across the fingerboard, taming the instrument”.

MAAT Saxophone Quartet consists of Daniel on soprano, Catarina on alto, Pedro on tenor and Mafalda on baritone saxophone.  MAAT has been playing together since 2018. They were awarded the “Prémio Jovens Músicos”, one of the most prestigious classical music competitions in Portugal, the country where they are from. The quartet was formed in Amsterdam while they were studying at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam with Arno Bornkamp. They perform mostly new, contemporary and adventurous repertoire. Dutch Classical Talent wrote: “They speak the same language, literally and musically! Very high technical level, organic playing, and an insanely tight presentation”.

Storioni Festival
The Storioni Trio and Muziekgebouw Eindhoven initiated this chamber music festival of international stature back in 2007. Many successful editions have followed, with the anniversary edition in 2017 being one of the highlights. With full halls and audiences eagerly awaiting the next edition, and with international musicians of top quality, this festival managed to put itself on the map through exceptional programs and collaborations with leading musicians such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Pekka Kuusisto, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Gidon Kremer, Kathryn Stott, Mischa Maisky, Vadim Repin and Sol Gabetta. Since its inception, it has provided wonderful music and entertainment.
