To the End of the World

David Hordijk
Woensdag 25 oktober 2023, 12:40 - 13:20
Blauwe Zaal, Auditorium
Prijs: Gratis (Student) Gratis (Anderen)

Suppose you’re a student at this university, and the desire to make music becomes so strong that you decide to quit your studies and set off on a journey to a place the Romans thought was the end of the earth. And what do you do when you get there? Play the piano, of course!

Enter the brave and musical world of David Hordijk during this concert recital. David Hordijk started his walking journey in 2021 from Helmond via Santiago de Compostella to Finisterre in Spain, which literally means "the end of the earth." The symbolism of this place and this journey by foot is that one must completely detach oneself from familiar surroundings and routines, such as going to and from work, in order to return more free. In "To the End of the World," David tells the personal story of his walk, why he set out, and what his journey brought him. During his four-month, 2,500-mile walk, he experienced many adventures and had numerous meaningful and funny encounters.
Through crowdfunding, David raised money to ensure that he would find his own piano on the cliffs of Finisterre. With the help of friends who were willing to bring the piano from the Netherlands, he was able to give a concert and record a music video.

During this lunchtime lecture/concert, David will take you on his fascinating journey, accompanying himself on the piano with his own compositions and beautiful images taken along the way.
