Drawing to Music

Hélène Aarts
Wednesday, April 30 , 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Coronal hall, Luna building
Price: € 8.00 incl. vat (Student)

Ready to experience drawing like never before? Join us for this workshop and discover how to let sound guide your creativity. No need to overthink or plan, just tune in, let the music guide your hand, and see where it takes you.

In this workshop, you won’t start with a clear idea of what to draw. Instead, you’ll listen to music and let the sounds inspire you to create shapes, lines, and colors. You’ll explore how music and drawing can connect, and how emotions, rhythm, and movement can be translated into images.

The workshop is inspired by Wassily Kandinsky, one of the pioneers of abstract painting in western art. Kandinsky saw music as "the most abstract of all the arts", because it can express feelings without words or images. He wanted to do the same with color and form, to create paintings that are like music: full of emotion and meaning. According to Kandinsky, abstract art can show what we feel inside, beyond what we can see or describe.

This workshop is led by Hélène Aarts, a visual artist working in painting, drawing, and graphic arts, and assistant professor at the Faculty of the Built Environment at TU/e. In 2024, she was nominated for the TU/e’s Best Master Teacher Awards

All drawing materials will be provided, and you don’t need any drawing experience to join this workshop. If you want to paint instead of draw, you may bring your own materials.
