Research on graphene is hotter than ever since professors Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2010 for their groundbreaking experiments on graphene. This one-atom-thick layer of carbon atoms which can be visualized as an atomic scale chicken wire is the thinnest existing material and has extraordinary properties. Because of this graphene seems very useful for innovative electronics, the automotive and aerospace industry and research on quantum physics.

Mikhail Katsnelson, professor Theoretical Physics (RU), who has been working on graphene with Geim and Novoselov since 2004, will tell us all about the promising future of this unique material.
