Lecture

The future of Dutch defense sold out

Dr. Margriet Drent
Wednesday, October 2 2013, 12:40 PM - 1:35 PM (sold out)
Blauwe Zaal, Auditorium

Severe budget cuts mean that the purpose and organization of the Dutch Armed Forces (air force, navy and land forces) need to be rethought. Dr. Margriet Drent explores four  scenarios that take into account The Netherlands’ interests and values, comparative advantages of The Netherlands Armed Forces and the capability needs of the European Union and NATO.  She goes into the pros and cons of four different types of Armed Forces. Only one of these types would require the acquisition of the Joint Strike Fighter.

Margriet Drent is senior research fellow at Clingendael and Assistant Professor International Relations at the University of Groningen. She is co-author of ‘Clingendael’s visie op de krijgsmacht van de toekomst
