The idea of consciousness has baffled philosophers for centuries. Although we all have first-hand experience of being conscious, we have great difficulty defining consciousness, or locating it within our brain, our body, or indeed anywhere in the material world of the sciences. In the last decades the topic has also become an important field of study in psychology, neuroscience and artificial intelligence. Philosopher and psychologist dr. Monica Meijsing (Tilburg University) will introduce some of the important questions in current research on consciousness, paying special attention to the ideas of controversial Darwinist philosopher and scientist Daniel Dennett
