A picture is worth a thousand words, or so they say. But sometimes, you need a thousand words to truly understand a single image. World Press Photo captures moments from the past 76 years of history. And who better to put these photographs into context than Maarten van Rossem, the Netherlands’ best-known historian? No one. Period.
Tonight, we give historian Maarten van Rossem carte blanche to dive into a selection of iconic photographs from the rich history of the World Press Photo Exhibition. He’ll choose the images himself and, in his unmistakable style familiar from his many television appearances, bring them to life with his sharp observations, colorful stories, and vast historical knowledge.
This lecture is part of the World Press Photo Exhibition celebrating TU/e’s 70th anniversary. The exhibition is on view in Atlas from October 6–28 and admission is free.
