Eindhoven was the first city that was liberated during Operation Market Garden on 18 September 1944. This is celebrated each year with many activities, among them the Eindhoven Freedom Lecture.

This lecture is organized by the Market Garden Committee, the 18 September foundation, the municipality of Eindhoven and Studium Generale of the TU/e and honors and celebrates the four freedoms as defined by President Roosevelt: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want and freedom from fear.

Recent guest speakers include General Petraeus en General Van Uhm.
