Thelma, a shy girl from a religious family, moves from the Norwegian countryside to Oslo to go to college. Shortly after her arrival, she has an unexpected epileptic seizure, which she keeps a secret from her parents. At the same time, she meets fellow student Anja, to whom she feels extremely drawn. Thelma is overwhelmed by emotions she’s afraid to acknowledge, the attacks happen more and more frequently and the doctors find no medical explanation.
Slowly, it becomes clear that Thelma has frightening, supernatural powers and one day Anja goes missing without a trace.
