After his boxing career goes down the tubes, Dicky Eklund falls into a life of drugs and ends up with a 15-year jail sentence. In the meantime his half-brother Micky Ward is determined to become a boxing champion; a dream that threatens to come apart at the seams after a fight with an almost fatal outcome. But when Dicky gets out, he dedicates himself to training his half-brother.

The Fighter is based on the life of the American boxer ‘Irish’ Micky Ward, played by Mark Wahlberg. In the 83rd Academy Awards actors Melissa Leo and Christian Bale both won Oscars for their supporting roles.
