Spaceship Earth is the true, stranger-than-fiction, adventure of eight visionaries who spent two years quarantined inside of a self-engineered replica of Earth’s ecosystem called BIOSPHERE 2 in 1991.

The experiment was a worldwide phenomenon, chronicling daily existence in the face of life threatening ecological disaster and a growing criticism that it was nothing more than a cult. The bizarre story is both a cautionary tale and a hopeful lesson of how a small group of dreamers can potentially reimagine a new world.
Inspired by the work of Buckminster Fuller and the science fiction film Silent Running, the scientists embarked on a crazy experiment in voluntary quarantine, by the standards of which today’s Covid-19 isolation pales into insignificance. Never before has the story with the dramatic conclusion, including original footage of the ‘biospherians’, been told so revealingly.
This film is the opening film to the InScience film festival, and will be preceded by a very special welcome message.
InScience Film Festival
This program is a collaboration with Natlab Eindhoven and InScience film festival. InScience is one of the biggest science film festivals in Europe and is unique to The Netherlands. The festival focuses on the interface between film, science and society. The program consists of science films, debates and an educational program for children and young adults.
Due to the current TU/e corona measures Filmhuis De Zwarte Doos is temporarily closed. This film will therefore be screened in Natlab, Kastanjelaan 500, in Eindhoven. Buying a ticket online in advance is mandatory if you want to attend this film.
