New York, 1952. Marty, a young, brash shoe salesman, with one big dream: to become the world table tennis champion. The only problem? No one takes him seriously. Driven by blind ambition, Marty talks, schemes and stumbles his way into deeper and deeper trouble.
This mix of sports drama, thriller, and comedy, is astonishingly energetic; a succession of verbal fireworks, intense action, and disruptive twists. How much you get swept up in it, may well depend on your view of Marty himself: is he a likable rogue or a jerk who doesn’t really deserve success?
The film is directed by Josh Safdie, the visionary and multi-award-winning director behind Uncut Gems , known for his raw energy, intense characters, and a style that has earned him international acclaim at festivals such as Cannes. Timothée Chalamet leads the cast with infectious charisma, joined by an impressive ensemble in one of the most talked-about films of the year.
