Babs receives a cute piglet as a gift from an unknown grandfather who lived in America for many years. The old man pretends to be friendly, but he seems strangely interested in piglet Knor. Surely this has nothing to do with his past as a butcher? This veg-friendly stop-motion film is packed with humor, is beastly well made and is just incredibly fun for all ages.
Knor animator Jasper Kuipers will be present for an introduction to the film.
Language: Dutch, subtitles: English
Genre: animation, comedy, family
In order to keep the piglet she got for her birthday, Babs convinces her parents that Knor (Oink) can learn to behave by following puppy training. Training a piglet like a puppy turns out to be harder than expected. And that is not even the biggest challenge Babs and Knor will face. Luckily, they can count on Babs’ friend Tijn for help.
The British may have Shaun the Sheep, but we have Knor. This cheerful, slightly villainous film based on a book by Tosca Menten, is the first full-length stop-motion film made in the Netherlands and the first animated film to win a ‘Gouden Kalf’ award for best feature film. The story holds your attention, but the magic lies in the detailed images and the cuteness of the puppets. The typically Dutch details give the film a unique atmosphere, which was also appreciated abroad – for example in Berlin, where it was the first Dutch animated film to be selected for the Berlinale.
And for all international students: what better way to get to know a country than by watching this great animated film?
