An amazing story of how record-breaking tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams were prepped for greatness against all odds.

Language: English – subtitles:  Dutch

This fact-based fiction film centers around the father of Venus and Serena Williams in the title referred to as King Richard. Richard Williams is determined to create a better future for his daughters and turn them into great tennis players. But living in a dangerous neighborhood and trying to enter a predominantly white tennis world, he finds out the odds are strongly against him. His methods are not only controversial, but also attract the attention of social services.

You don’t have to be a tennis fan to enjoy this incredible story. Venus and Serena Williams have not only become two of the most successful tennis players to ever live on the face of this earth, they are also important role models for many (young) women.

Awards
Will Smith received the 2022 Oscar for Best Actor and  he won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for his performance.

Review
Showboating self-promoter; an overbearing bully; a distraction from his daughters’ careers: all of this and more has been levelled at Richard Williams, the larger-than-life father and coach of Venus and Serena Williams. This crowd-pleasing biopic, starring a grizzled Will Smith as Williams, redresses the balance somewhat with a more sympathetic portrait. It’s worth noting that both the Williams sisters and their half-sibling Isha Price are listed as executive producers.” The Guardian
