A liberating road odyssey of two young people coming into their own, searching for identity and chasing beauty in a perilous world that cannot abide who they are: cannibals.

Language: English, subtitles: Dutch

Maren, a young woman who tries to survive on the edge of society, and Lee, a somewhat intense homeless man, fall for each other in this far from standard love story. Together they go on a true odyssey that will take them to small back roads, hidden passageways and trapdoors of the America of Ronald Reagan. But eventually all roads lead to their frightful past. Will their love endure?

According to critics, this is one of the best films 2022 had to offer. This film got reviews such as “Dark and Dreamy”; “Romantic”; “Deeply cinematic” and “Mesmerizing”, but also “Genuinely Frightening”.  Timothée Chalamet is both beautiful and disturbing in this tale of young and forbidden love. It’s a parable for that terrible secret thought, scary but also euphoric, that creeps into everyone’s head in their teenage years: I am different. But lucky for us, we don’t share their appetite…

Please note: This film contains graphic images and violence.

Awards
Director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name) won the Silver Lion award for best director at the Venice film festival and Taylor Russell won the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress.

Reviews

“Bones And All is an extravagant and outrageous movie: scary, nasty and startling in its warped romantic idealism.”  The Guardian

“Bones and All is a surprisingly effective and affecting cannibal love story.” - New York Post

“The film flows like a Joy Division song: moody and ethereal until it escalates into a burst of sonic violence.” Time Out
