Amélie lives in Paris and in a world of her own. She works in a café and rents an apartment. Life seems to be dull but OK. Except that she is lonely.
Then everything changes….
Language: French – subtitles: English
Amélie Poulain works as a waitress in a café in Paris's Montmartre district and enjoys observing people while letting her imagination run wild. But then she discovers her ultimate life goal: to solve other people's problems. So, she helps the janitor of her apartment complex, who drinks port all day while talking to her stuffed dog. And also Georgette, her hypochondriac colleague. And also "the man of glass," her neighbor who is housebound, living his life through the Renoir reproductions he paints. But, Amélie's mission is unexpectedly disrupted when she meets the eccentric boy Nino Quincampoix.
The music, the art direction, the editing, the way a character is introduced, and the acting are all, in themselves, enough reason to come and see this classic. Twenty years after its original release, Amélie will enchant you once again.
And more importantly, it will lift your spirits big time!
Awards
The film won many awards, such as 4 Césars, 2 BAFTA’s, and several Audience Awards at film festivals worldwide.
Reviews
- “Amélie remains an ode to living in the now, even 20 years later.” The Spool.
- The most successful part of the movie is the first act: Amelie's childhood, when all the fantasy and naivety work best. There is a terrific voiceover which introduces us to Amelie's parents and gives us a hilarious run-down of their likes and dislikes, a bravura piece of comedy which is worth the price of admission. The Guardian.
