Intimate portrait of three women who fled from Ukraine speaking to the documentary filmmakers in the kitchen of their shelter in the Netherlands. In the background, the family left behind is always present.
Genre: Documentary
Language: Ukranian, subtitles English
Length: 1hr. 56 mins.
Natasha, Svitlana and Zoia find comfort in the kitchen of their Dutch shelter, a place where they cook, share stories, and process the unimaginable loss of their homeland. But what weighs heavier is the loss of their families and the roles they once held. They worry about loved ones fighting on the front lines and mourn relatives lost in the fight against Russia.
While trying to build a new life in the Netherlands, they struggle to hold on to their identities — torn between two worlds, unsure how long they will stay. “They are here, but their hearts are still there,” says filmmaker Petra Lataster. “They all long for home, but there’s no perspective as long as the war continues. I believe this film is an important commentary— especially now that the conversation around refugees is changing in the Netherlands—because you see how much drama is behind every refugee.”
Reviews
"’Alles is Goed’ is a gentle, melancholic film that doesn’t smooth anything over but simply observes. 'Life goes on, we have to cook.” De Volkskrant
“lt's a deeply moving documentary — perhaps because it confronts the viewer with the most ordinary and oldest human emotions: sorrow and longing for home.” CineMagazine
