In the past four years, Zitakula has played dozens of festivals with their own infectious brand of funk, afrobeat and tropical grooves, setting thousands of feet loose on the dance floor in nearly a hundred shows. They have played at Oerol, Noorderslag, Wicked Jazz Sounds Festival, Zwarte Cross, 22Fest, Summer Jazz, Valkhof Festival, Welcome to the Village and Noorderzon, Paradiso and de Melkweg, among others—and featured in Dutch television show De Wereld Draait Door.
Last fall they recorded their long-overdue full-length debut with singer Sandy Miessi Bakomi, the face and fabulous voice of Zitakula. Taking their cues from original masters like Fela Kuti, Ebo Taylor, and ethiojazz great Mulatu Astatke, they explore the possibilities of an afrobeat eight-piece. Stir in a bit of psychedelic rock, and some masters of the modern jazz and soul scene and you might have an idea where Zitakula's heading.
AFRIKABOOMNADA is your favorite mocha bro on the go. Expect disco, hip hop, joyfull conga’s, exciting beats and funky basslines. He left De Effenaar for Paradiso, is resident at the popular club-night HET WILD and has played on stages as Mysteryland, Paaspop, Pitch and Solar.
