From idea to operating room uitverkocht

Dr. Benno Lansdorp
Dinsdag 6 juni 2017, 12:40 - 13:35 (uitverkocht)
Blauwe Zaal Auditorium

Benno Lansdorp (DEMCON Medical Robotics) shows how a research idea can become commercial reality in the world of medical robotics.

In clinics and hospitals, the use of medical robots is continuously increasing. To keep improving the treatment of patients, a lot of research is done with respect to diagnosis, surgery and revalidation. But how does an idea become reality in the world of medical robotics?

Benno Lansdorp, ‎Managing Director at DEMCON Medical Robotics, will discuss this process from academic idea to commercial product, using DEMCON’s recently developed needle positioning system as an example. This system plays an important role in the treatment of tumors in liver cancer.

Lansdorp will also discuss the social implications of medical robotics, illustrating how different stakeholders (physicians, patients, hospital board, etc.) respond to the increasing use of medical robots in their work, and how the medical world will be affected by new developments in medical robotics.

Dr. ir. Benno Lansdorp has a background in Biomechanical Engineering (University of Twente). He is managing director at DEMCON Medical Robotics and Business Development Manager Medical Devices. DEMCON is a high-end technology supplier of products and systems, with as focus areas high-tech systems, industrial systems, embedded systems and medical systems.

This lecture is organized by Protagoras, the study association of Biomedical Engineering at the TU/e, in cooperation with Studium Generale. The lecture is also part of the symposium Robots & Doctors join hands, organized by Protagoras.
