Dutch Elections – What’s Up? uitverkocht

Dr. Kristof Jacobs
Woensdag 22 november 2023, 12:40 - 13:20 (uitverkocht)
Blauwe Zaal, Auditorium
Prijs: Gratis (Student) Gratis (Anderen)

The tension is palpable. Tonight at 21:00, the ballot boxes will close in the Dutch parliamentary elections. Left or right, conservative or progressive? After tonight, it will be clear which political course the majority of the Dutch people want to take. Political scientist Kristof Jacobs will reflect on the course of the election battle, look ahead to the results and their possible consequences, and discuss the impact of the political and social developments we’ve seen on the quality of democracy in the Netherlands.

What stood out in the election campaign? What was the hot topic: livelihood security, migration, or climate change? Will the VVD become the largest party again, or will NSC, GroenLinks-PvdA, or BBB win this time? And who will succeed Prime Minister Mark Rutte?

Dr. Kristof Jacobs is an Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science at the Radboud University (Nijmegen). His research focuses on contemporary challenges to democracy – such as the rise of populist parties and voters – their consequences and the responses to them. He also studies the use of social media by politicians and citizens and its impact during elections. Kristof Jacobs regularly contributes to the Dutch political science blog Stuk Rood Vlees, and he is also a member of the team organizing the National Voter Survey 2023 (Nationaal Kiezersonderzoek). This is a recurring research project focused on the election of the House of Representatives, which aims to monitor the views and behavior of Dutch voters over decades.
