Bio-art
The permeating relationship of art with the life sciences
A growing number of artists incorporate biotechnological practices into their work; they create their work in a laboratory and use living materials as an artistic medium. These so-called bio-artists use this combination of art and science to contribute to a new and different kind of public and academic debate on the cultural and ethical consequences of research in the life sciences. But do bio-artists succeed in their effort to pose philosophical, ethical, academic and cultural questions that are normally overlooked in scientific research?
