We all know the urgent need to radically transform the global economic system to become carbon neutral in just a few decades. To realise this, we need to boost innovation of smart low carbon technologies and make the magic of economies of scale work. But, what about a just transition?
The call for a just transition is clearly growing. But what does ‘just’ actually imply? And is the ‘just’ component truly relevant for a fast transition, or merely the natural lens of leftist people and organisations? In his lecture, Bart Wesselink will explore these questions in an interactive way. You will be invited to make your voice heard.
Dr. ir. Bart Wesselink has worked as a researcher and consultant at PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, international energy consultancy Ecofys and NGO WWF. Since 2014, he has been working as an independent sustainability researcher and advisor for industrial federations, governments, and NGOs. He is also a lecturer at the Technology, Innovation and Society (TIS) group at TU/e.
In 2018, Wesselink worked for Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie), where he and director Donald Pols successfully introduced the topic of a just transition on the Dutch climate policy agenda.
This lecture is organized by Team Energy in cooperation with Studium Generale.
