A chronicle about the enthralling, against-all-odds story that transfixed the world in 2018: the daring rescue of twelve boys and their coach from deep inside a flooded cave in Northern Thailand.
The film will start at 19:30 (door opens at 19.15) and there will be an introduction.
Language: English – subtitles: Dutch
Using a wealth of never-before-seen material and exclusive interviews, directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin keep viewers on the edge of their seats. They bring to life one of the most perilous and extraordinary rescues in modern times, shining a light on the high-risk world of cave diving, the astounding courage and compassion of the rescuers, the strength and courage of young boys, the power of meditation, and the shared humanity of the international community that united to save the boys.
The Thai Navy Seals in the film are often blurred because they are still active as Navy Seals. Much of the footage in the film was shot by the Thai Navy Seals but was only released to the filmmakers when they were about to finalize the film. Luckily, it was still possible to integrate some of this unique footage from within the cave into the film.
This incredible story is now shown in an incredible film.
Quote from the director: “It shows what is possible if people of all different countries and cultures come together to achieve one goal. They didn’t have to do this, but they did.”

Reviews:
- “Far greater than mere extreme sports docs, their (the directors) movies raise philosophical queries about life and the universe, bringing an existential edge to the challenges they capture.” Variety.
- “Free Solo” filmmakers E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin — further cementing their reputation as rock stars of the extreme non-fiction cinema scene with their most absorbing and ingeniously crafted stress-fest to date — so intimately embed us with the ragtag team of cave divers who attempted the impossible that we feel worthy of a medal just for watching them do it.” Indiewire.
