Sorry, Baby, debut filmmaker Eva Victor offers a deeply human look at how a young literature professor rebuilds her life after a traumatic experience. Without sensationalism or sentimentality, the film traces the quiet, often unpredictable ways resilience takes shape; in friendship, humor, and the small moments that make survival possible.

Genre: drama, dark comedy (2025)
Language: English, subtitles: Dutch
Length: 1 hr. 43 mins.

The story follows Agnes, a literature professor whose world quietly starts to unravel after a traumatic experience. Rather than focusing on the event itself, the film explores the scattered, non-linear ways she learns to cope; through awkward intimacy with a neighbor, a stray cat that refuses to leave her side, and even the odd routine of jury duty.

Small, everyday encounters, like a kind sandwich-shop owner who calms her during a panic attack, or a doctor’s appointment that takes an unexpected turn, reveal how survival often takes shape in fragile, ordinary moments.

Wryly funny yet deeply compassionate, Sorry, Baby transforms a story of trauma into one of quiet strength, connection, and the courage to keep moving forward.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, Sorry, Baby immediately received rave reviews and won the prestigious Screenwriting Award. Produced by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) and released by A24 (Midsommar, The Zone of Interest, Lady Bird), the film has been praised for its emotional depth and understated brilliance.

Reviews
“Clear-eyed, disarming and, yes, plainly semi-autobiographical, “Sorry, Baby” takes every right turn in making Agnes far more than a tragic yet wisecracking victim, with a smiling-through-tears ending waiting around the bend.” Chicago Tribune

“It’s like a stone gets shoved into the river of your life. There’s a lot of pain in trying to remove it and you can’t. … You just have to find a way for the water to move around it.” The Guardian
