The plans to turn 1950s’ popular play ‘The Mousetrap’ into a film come to an abrupt halt after the intended director is killed. Inspector Stoppard and his overeager assistant Constable Stalker are designated to investigate the murder case.
Language: English, subtitels: Dutch
In the West End of 1950s’ London, an obnoxious Hollywood director is planning to bring Agatha Christie's play ‘The Mousetrap’ to the stage but is found horribly murdered before he can carry out those plans. The case is investigated by burned-out Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) and eager rookie Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan). They end up in a puzzling mystery set against the backdrop of the glamorous but self-serving theater world and try at their own peril to expose the murderer.
The idea for the film is inspired by an actual clause in the rights of ‘The Mousetrap’, stating that you can make the movie six months after the play closes, and of course, it never closed. This film may be set in the 1950s but is definitely meant for a contemporary audience. It’s both a modern murder mystery and a satirical take on the genre.
