Dubbed "the greatest that never was," Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1's most promising phenom of the 1990s, until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he's a nomadic racer-for-hire when he's approached by his former teammate, Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), now the owner of a struggling Formula 1 team, approaches him with one last chance to return to the sport.
Ruben convinces Sonny to make a comeback, to save the team and reclaim his place among the best in the world. He'll race alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a hotshot rookie determined to set his own pace. But as the engines roar and rivalries ignite, Sonny's past comes speeding back, and he learns that in FORMULA 1, your greatest rival might just be your own teammate, and redemption is never a solo race.
