Twenty-year-old juvenile delinquent Daniel dreams of becoming a priest. But because of his criminal record, he doesn't stand a chance to become one. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when, during his work leave, he is mistaken for a young priest in a village chapel. The local community can put him to good use and Daniel decides to stay in his role to help the village with an unprocessed trauma. But as he becomes more and more confident as a charismatic, unorthodox priest, the uncovering is lurking and the fear that his criminal past will overtake, grows.
Corpus Christi is a poignant Polish drama with humor and a sharp edge about getting a second chance. The film, based on true events, was internationally acclaimed. Corpus Christi was nominated for an Oscar and has won some 50 prizes worldwide. This year the film was one of the absolute crowd favorites at IFFR.
“Led by an impressive performance from Bartosz Bielenia, Corpus Christi thoughtfully and engagingly examines questions of faith and redemption.”
