What gives people strength in the direst of circumstances? In this documentary, Herman Teerhöfer presents the unique testimonies of six Holocaust survivors, demonstrating how they found strength and gave meaning to life after the war despite experiencing great loss and trauma.

Understanding all that occurred in the concentration camps of World War II can be challenging. In the documentary Auschwitz: Our Story (40 min), six Holocaust survivors recount their personal experiences. Max Hamburger, Thérèse Granek, Nelly Basch, Régine Beer, Bloeme Evers, and Dov Nasch share their stories of deportation to Auschwitz and the challenging process of readjusting to life afterwards.

The film will be introduced by maker Herman Teerhöfer (founder and chairman of the Smolinski Foundation), who, over the course of 13 years, has interviewed 91 Auschwitz survivors (ages 81 to 100) in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom and Israel. He will discuss his motivations and considerations in making this film. Afterwards there will be a short Q&A.

Herman Teerhöfer is a theologian and spiritual counselor in Tilburg and Breda. Both professionally and privately, he is interested in how people give meaning to their lives and where they find strength, especially under difficult circumstances. He is the founder of the Smolinski Foundation, which aims to document and disseminate the stories of Holocaust survivors.
