The World Press Photo Exhibition tells the stories of our time through fascinating, moving and compelling photographs. In celebration of TU/e’s 70th anniversary this year, we have invited key researchers from our community to demonstrate how some of the exhibition's main themes are mirrored in their own research:

  • Dr. Pieter Pauw takes "Mexico, A Changing Climate" as a starting point to discuss climate change, climate policy and climate justice.
  • Dr. Juliette van Haren connects "Motherhood at 60", to her research on artificial womb and placenta technology.
  • Dr. Valentina Cortés-Urra connects "Extramuros" to her research on housing for vulnerable communities and how our homes and urban environments shape social relationships.
  • Prof. Dr. Yvonne de Kort will take the photo series "Hijacked Education", to reflect on the importance of education, and the fact that access to it is far from a given for everyone.

With silent disco headphones on, we’ll move through the exhibition together, stopping at different works to hear directly from the researchers.

Join us for this special evening and see the photos through the eyes of our scientists. An unique experience!

The World Press Photo Exhibition is once again traveling around the world and will land on our campus for three weeks, during which time you can visit the exhibition for free. You can also walk through the rest of the exhibition after this event. Alternatively, you can join one of the daytime guided tours led by trained TU/e student guides. These tours take you through some of the highlights of the World Press Photo Exhibition and tell you all the fascinating stories behind this year's winning images. There is expected to be minimal overlap with this event.

TU/e celebrates 70 years of curiosity.
This year, TU/e celebrates its 70th anniversary with a week full of events that reflect what has always brought the university forward: curiosity. For seven decades, TU/e has connected students, researchers, staff and partners through a shared drive to ask questions, explore new ideas and shape the future together. During the lustrum week, we celebrate this spirit of curiosity and collaboration, with activities that inspire, connect and invite everyone to join the conversation.
