The Story of Abubakarr

New Dutch Connections
Wednesday, May 14 , 12:40 PM - 1:20 PM
Blauwe Zaal, Auditorium
Price: Free (Student) Free (Others)

What does it mean to start over, to build a life in a new country, and to turn hardship into strength? The Story of Abubakarr is a moving theatrical performance that tells the true story of Abubakarr Bangura, who fled the civil war in Sierra Leone and found his way to the Netherlands.

The performance ends at 13:20 — afterwards, you’re welcome to stay for an open conversation with Abubakarr until 14:00 (optional).

Growing up surrounded by hip-hop music, Abubakarr’s life took a dramatic turn when war broke out. Witnessing violence up close shaped his path as a peace activist — a journey that ultimately forced him to flee his country. After eight long years in the asylum system, he managed to rebuild his life, study pedagogy and business, and now gives back to both his homeland and his new community.

During this lunch program, actor Ousmane Bangoura brings Abubakarr’s story to life on stage in the Blauwe Zaal, accompanied by the mesmerizing music of Senegalese musician Mola Sylla. Together, they share a story of perseverance, dreams, and finding strength in community.

Optional: post-show discussion until 14:00
After the performance, you’re invited to stay for an open conversation with Abubakarr himself, a unique opportunity to dive deeper into his story, ask your questions, and connect.

This event is organized in collaboration with Tint Eindhoven.
