She has to lose herself completely in the darkness. That’s what master choreographer Leroy keeps on repeating in Black Swan, while he’s coaching Nina for her double role in Tchaikovsky’s most famous ballet. Nina is made for the role of the white swan, but does she have the aggression and the dark side to her character that it takes to play the black swan? She certainly does, as the film gradually shows.
The ballet world of envy and jealousy is increasingly transformed into a horror scenario which the lead figure, a fantastic role by Natalie Portman, sinks into. Listen out for the excellent soundtrack. Also suitable for people who don’t do ballet!
