Blauwe Zaal, Auditorium

How is automation and AI reshaping the workforce, from creative industries to future factories? Will new roles emerge, or is widespread job loss inevitable? Join Dr. Ir. Carlo van de Weijer as he explores the trends, challenges, and leadership needed to navigate the evolving future of work in an AI-driven world.

Automation is sweeping through companies relentlessly, eliminating obsolete jobs, and creating new types of jobs. Industry 4.0 envisions factories where resources enter on one side and finished products come out on the other side, costing only marginally more than the resources themselves. Now, new AI-tools like ChatGPT and text-to-image generators are even pressurizing white-collar jobs in the creative industry.
Will Artificial Intelligence usher in a new wave of job replacement, potentially leading to massive unemployment unlike previous technological shifts? Or will these fears once again prove unfounded as new roles emerge that we cannot yet imagine? How can we prepare for such a future, and how should we educate the next generation for such an uncertain landscape? Moreover, what kind of leadership is required to navigate this new reality?

Today’s speaker, Dr. Ir. Carlo van de Weijer will present key trends and guidelines on how the future of work may evolve. Which jobs are secure, which are likely to be replaced, how much should we be concerned, and how can we best prepare?

Carlo van de Weijer holds a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from TU Eindhoven and a PhD with honors from TU Graz. He has extensive experience in the automotive industry, having held executive positions at companies such as Siemens and TomTom. In the field of research, he has served as TU/e’s Director of the Strategic Area Smart Mobility. Currently, he is the Managing Director of the Eindhoven AI System Institute (EAISI) at Eindhoven University of Technology. Dr. van de Weijer advises governments and industries worldwide on the future of mobility and serves on the supervisory boards of several high-tech companies and startups.
