Psychopaths Among Us

Dr. Josi Driessen
Wednesday, November 12 , 12:40 PM - 1:20 PM
Blauwe Zaal, Auditorium
Price: Free (Student) Free (Others)

When we hear the term "psychopath," we tend to think of the cold-blooded criminals portrayed in movies, Netflix series, and true-crime podcasts. But what are the actual characteristics of a psychopath? Where do we encounter them in our society? Do their brains work differently? And can people with psychopathy be "cured"?

Dr. Josi Driessen is a neuroscientist at Radboud University and the Donders Institute. She studies how individuals with antisocial and psychopathic traits process social information and how this relates to their behavior. In this lecture, she will discuss what we know about psychopathy, how it is studied, and whether it can be treated. Perhaps we all have psychopathic tendencies to some extent.

The Farewell Week of Lucas Asselbergs
This lecture is part of the Farewell Week of Lucas Asselbergs. After 34 years at TU/e,  16 of which as head of Studium Generale, Lucas is saying goodbye to the university. That’s why this week’s SG programs are all about... Lucas! In a subtle, surprising, and sometimes very personal way, he weaves through it all like a common thread.
