Thelma, the film directorial debut of Josh Margolin, is a touching action comedy in which Oscar®-nominated film veteran June Squibb (Nebraska) plays her first leading role and in which she does many of her stunts herself. She is conned by someone posing as her grandson (Fred Hechinger, The White Lotus), and on her search-and-revenge quest, she is accompanied by her elderly friend played by phenomenal actor Richard Roundtree (Shaft!) in his latest role.
The student film committee recommends Thelma because: “It’s a humorous take on spy thrillers, that works as a parody as well as on its own. It also explores the theme 'loss of autonomy' in modern society in a moving way.”
