This is Texas in the 1950s. A large family suffer a big loss. What we see here is the personal story of director Terence Malick.
The Tree of Life starts with the origins of the Earth, zooms in to a tiny detail (the family), and zooms out again to the end of the universe. And right at the end, the director even gives us a glimpse of something that looks like ‘the other side’. What he’s trying to do is to represent the enormity and the cruelty of life, in an attempt to reconcile himself to it.
This is one of the most talked-about movies of the year, and it’s one that you shouldn’t miss!
