The buried memories of the Spanish Civil War are unearthed as a woman searches for the remains of her great- grandfather and discovers the story of an idealistic young teacher from Tarragona.
A beautifully shot film that blends emotion, humanity, and hope and reminds us that education can be an act of resistance.

In 1935, young Antoni Benaiges is appointed teacher at a remote school in Burgos, Spain. In an era of strict and traditional education, he opts for an innovative, idealistic approach: he encourages his pupils to think for themselves, to dream and to use their imagination. He also promises to take them to the sea one day. Seventy-five years later, Ariadna searches for traces of her great-grandfather, one of Benaiges' pupils. In doing so, she discovers the fate of the teacher, whose ideals proved fatal to him during the fascist era.
General Franco's dictatorship (1939-1975) left deep scars in Spain. Historians estimate that the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), which preceded his reign, claimed approximately 114,000 lives. The Teacher Who Promised The Sea tells a family story that is shared by many in Spain.
