A terrifying fate awaits the boys and girls at an English boarding school in 1978. They are expected to make ‘donations’ as soon as they become adults. Until them, schoolmistresses are in charge of their welfare, and a doctor checks them for ‘damage’. Parents are nowhere to be seen. The lead characters are resigned to their fate and – unlike the usual movie heroes – don’t protest or revolt. Because the reality they’re in is the only one they know.
The movie is based on the novel ‘One hour photo’ by Kazuo Ishiguro. Excellent lead roles by Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield.
