Game show host Eveline wants a more meaningful life. Yousef wants sunglasses as cool as his classmates. Yousef, encouraged by his friends, steals Eveline's brand-new video camera. When she reports the crime, Eveline declares under pressure that she has been threatened with a knife. What appears to be a mere white lie causes a chain reaction that will forever tie her destiny with that of her young assailant.
Met Mes is both a media satire and a tragedy about human nature, brought in a visually overwhelming style. It’s Dutch director Sam de Jong's third feature film, after Prins and Goldie, in which he shows life as we know it, but different than what we are used to…
Met Mes has been selected for the IFFR Tiger Competition.
Reviews
“Sam de Jong treats us to an inimitable and delightfully frivolous world. Beneath all the humorous narrative discoveries and (invented) youth trends, venom also bubbles.” ****-rating De Volkskrant
“The camera turns out to be a much more powerful weapon than that fictitious knife.” De Filmkrant
“Sam de Jong’s third feature uses a colorful coat of irony to explore peer pressure.” Screendaily
(De Jong uses) … “a playful approach throughout the film and delivers a concrete message about the dangers of prejudices and one’s urge to be the center of attention – the latter is a very timely theme – with great irony and light-heartedness.” CineEurope
