American Lee Miller (1907-1977) began as a fashion model in the 1920s, then switched to photography, and would shoot iconic images for fashion magazine Vogue as a war photographer during WWII. Shortly after liberation, she also captured the horrors at concentration camps Dachau and Buchenwald. Everything is covered in this entertaining biopic, in which British actress Kate Winslet (who also co-produced the film) convinces without fail as the free-spirited, determined Miller. It’s not just a story of a photographer, but a captivating journey into courage and conscience.

This movie is a special screening because of our World Press Photo exhibition, which can be visited for free in the Atlas building from 2-24 September.

Awards
The film was nominated for Outstanding British Film of the Year at the BAFTAs. Kate Winslet also earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor.

Reviews
“Lee is beautiful, daring, and elusive, as all great art should be. It’s a fitting tribute to a woman whose work exhibited the same qualities”. Film Threat

“Lee is a vivid and unforgettable tribute to one of the bold women who devoted her life to the penetration of male dominance to change the way we see the world. Don’t even think about missing it.” Observer

“Lee feeds the desire to seek out more of her images. Winslet’s performance demands that we consider the force behind the camera.” The New York Times
